Pattie Boyd, George Harrison and Eric Clapton.

Since watching a two part documentary about George Harrison, I’ve been a little obsessed with his album All Things Must Pass.

One of the most fascinating stories told during the documentary was about the love triangle between Pattie Boyd, George Harrison and Eric Clapton. Apparently, Boyd inspired what are arguably some of that era’s greatest love songs.

Pattie Boyd had been married to Harrison for several years when, in the late 1960s, Harrison and Clapton formed a friendship. The two became close and wrote and recorded music together, but somewhere along the way, Clapton fell in love with Boyd. He revealed his feelings to her one night by playing a song he’d written for her: “Layla.” Boyd and Harrison later divorced and she eventually married Clapton.

Pattie is said to have inspired a number of songs by both artists, most notably “Something” and “Isn’t It A Pity” by George Harrison, and “Layla” and “Wonderful Tonight” by Eric Clapton.
